FAQ's...
Are Bungay Firefighters Paid?
No.  The Bungay Fire Brigade is an all VOLUNTEER fire department.  All of our members volunteer all their time for all of our services that we provide.  We are on call, 24/7/365.

What services do you provide?
Fire suppression, EMS, Haz-Mat, Dive Rescue, Search and Rescue, Car Accidents and Service Calls.

Is your station staffed 24/7?
Unfortunately it is not.  However if there is a major storm forecasted, members do volunteer to staff the station during that time to ensure the safety of our of our residents of our district.  Our members are notified of calls by alpha-numeric pagers.

How many calls a year do you respond to?
The Bungay Fire Brigade responds to approximately 200 calls a year (JUST IN OUR DISTRICT).

What types of trucks do you have and why?
We have two Engine Tankers (also called ET's) we have one Engine, one Rescue, one Service Truck and a boat.

The ET's are our main fire fighting trucks.  They carry at least 1000 gals of water.  Since there are no fire hydrants in our town we need trucks with a lot of water on them to help put out house and other types of fires.  Our ET's also respond to all car accidents (as they have our extrication tools on them), all fires and haz-mats.

The Engine responds to what we call a "water hole".  This truck goes to a pond, lake, river, etc to pump water to the scene of the fire.

The Rescue truck is used at all EMS can rescue calls.  The Bungay Fire Brigade is a "First Responder Department" meaning we don't have an ambulance so we send a rescue truck to all medical calls and start EMS care before the ambulance gets there.

The Service truck is used for things like, trees down, traffic control, Haz-Mat's and Dive Rescue calls.  The Service truck pulls our boat and Haz-Mat trailer.

The boat is used for water emergencies and dive calls.

When I have a house fire why do other fire departments come too?
Because there are no fire hydrants in town it is very hard to get the amount of water we need to put out a house fire, so we rely on what we call Mutual Aid.  When there is a house fire, two other departments also respond along with Bungay.

How much does it cost to outfit a fire fighter?
"Turn out gear" cost approximately $2,020 for just ONE firefighter.  $194 for helmet, $897 for coat, $598 for pants, $241 for boots, $60 for gloves and $30 for hoods.  As you see it is not cheap.  That's why we need your support.

What area of town do we cover?
The Bungay Fire Brigade covers the West Woodstock, Woodstock Valley and Kenyoville Sections of the Town of Woodstock.  We cover nearly half of Woodstock's 61 square miles.  We also provide mutual aid to the rest of Woodstock on an as needed bases.
